AFCON 2021 Q: Psychologically There Is Pressure On South Africa- CK Akonnor

The Black Stars head coach believes playing at home put pressure on South Africa psychologically as both sides go head to head in a crunch game on Thursday afternoon.

South Africa will host Ghana in a last but one Group C tie at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg with a ticket to the AFCON 2021 tournament at stake for the winner.

The Black Stars beat Bafana Bafana in the reverse fixture 2-0 at Cape Coast Stadium last year.

Charles Kwabla Akonnor speaking ahead of the game admitted that the match will be different from the last outing but he is hopeful to get good results.

“This is a different ball game altogether. That was our home, this time we are in an away match. This is their home ground, the pressure is on them psychologically. They will have to win. We also have to map a strategy that will give us a victory and am very very hopeful. And what I have seen in the last weeks, what we have worked on if we are able to implement it here we will get a good result.”

“There is always pressure whether they win or not there is always pressure in a match like this. It is important for us to do what we can do and qualify tomorrow.”

With Sudan beating Sao Tome and Principe yesterday, the group is open as three countries are tied on the same points 9.

However, Akonnor says his priority is to qualify in today’s game and not the results from the other group game.

“We are not going to look at what Sudan and others have done. We have to look at ourselves as a football nation and our people who are hungry to see us qualify. So I am not looking at them. It will be important to do well tomorrow and then get the necessary results.” He said

The game is set to kickoff at 4 PM local time
