Billboard has released its 2023 Women in Music list ahead of the Billboard Women in Music Awards slated for the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles on March 1.
The list honors music’s rising artists, creators, producers, and executives for their contributions to the music industry and community. Temi Adeniji, who oversees sub-Saharan Africa and special projects as managing director and senior vice president at Warner Music South Africa, received recognition for her crucial contribution to growing the company’s footprint on the African continent. She was also credited with leveraging Nigerian singer-songwriter CKay’s sleeper hit “Love Nwantiti (Oh Ah Ah),” which gave the Afrobeats artist his first No. 1 on the Rhythmic Airplay chart, to achieve global success when his debut studio album, Sad Romance, was released in September.
The article recognized Rebecca “Dimplez” Ijeoma, senior vice president of digital marketing and content development at Capitol Music Group, for her work in creating cutting-edge digital marketing strategies for the label’s artists. She was also praised for signing Kodak Black, who is “of huge importance to the company,” and for overseeing the “cultural emergence” of Doechii and Ice Spice.
Titilope Adesanya, Director of Operations, Empire Africa. The label’s global reach remains top tier with the success of its African artists, including FireBoy DML, Kizz Daniel, and Black Sherif, according to Billboard.
