Ghanaian legendary instrumentalist cum musician, born Anthony Acquah known better by his stage name as Akablay believes instrumentalists and backing vocalists don’t get the needed credits they deserve from artistes.
According to him, playing the instrument gives one the opportunity to write songs.
Appearing on Adom TV’s entertainment show ‘AHOSEPE XTRA’ with Sister Sandy, he revealed that they are frontliners in the studio as they do 20% of the works in the studio.
According to Akablay, he decided to do music after playing instruments for others following the credits he used not to get from artistes.
He says artistes give credits to themselves for songs instrumentalists write for them.
The instrumentalist believes even on stage, they constantly perform as compared to artistes.
”Until recent that they started awarding to the instrumentalist but in the studio, he does 20% of the works in the studio. In the studio, the instrumentalist is the frontliner. Even on stage, when you look at the singer, he doesn’t sing for long but we the band, the drummer, and instrumentalist, Constantly, they are playing. Even in the studio, the singer brings his lyrics, sings and the instrumentalist will do the arrangement”
he said.
”I’m still a guitarist. I still go to the studio to play instruments for people but it got to a time I said to myself why should I be writing songs for people to sing for them to go for interviews and lie that they got them from the bathroom? Playing the instrument gives you the opportunity to write songs so if I have songs, why should I give it to Sister Sandra for her to go for an interview and claim she got the inspiration from the bathroom when I also have a bathroom”
he added.
