BET Announces Sarkodie As The “Best International Flow” Artiste.

BET Hip Hop Awards, a subsidiary annual awards show of Black Entertainment Tv (BET) Awards has announced multiple awards winning Ghanaian born Hip Hop recording and performing artiste Michael Owusu Addo, professionally known for his musicianship as Sarkodie, as the Best International Flow artiste at the 2019 edition of the prestigious awards scheme.

This category, “Best International Flow”, is the newest addition to the illustrious awards scheme, since its inception, and proven to be the most valuable Africa’s best rapper within the last one decade of the hip pop genre, Sarkodie escaped competition from his genre colleague artiste to emerge victorious as the Best International Flow.

Slated for October 5, 8 pm EST on BET at the Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Center after vacating Miami for the last two years, the Ghanaian born rapper competed against a host of other astute recording and performing rappers, including Falz (Nigeria), Ghetts (U.K.), Kalash (France), Lil Simz (U.K.), Nasty C (South Africa) and Tory Lanez (Canada). The event was hosted by American comedian, actor and entertainer, Lil Duval.

With over 81 awards from 148 nominations to his credit, Sarkodie is unparalleled in the music industry as he adds up the BET Hip Hop Awards plaque to his impressive collection of laurels. His contributions to the Ghanaian Music Industry have earned him numerous accolades, including the Vodafone Ghana Music Award for Artiste of the Decade. In 2015, Sarkodie was ranked the 19th most Influential Ghanaian by e.tv Ghana. He is considered one of the major proponents of the Azonto genre and dance.

Sarkodie is often named as one of Africa’s greatest hip hop artists. MTV Base ranked him sixth on its list of the Hottest African MC’s in 2014. In 2013, Lynx TV ranked him first on its list of the “Top 10 Ghanaian Rappers of All Time”. In 2015, AfricaRanking.com ranked him third on its list of the “Top 10 African Rappers of 2015”. In 2015, The Guardian listed him as one of its top five hip hop acts on the African continent.

The BET Hip Hop Awards are an annual awards show, airing on BET, showcasing hip hop performers, producers and music video directors. The awards ceremony began in 2006, was held on November 12, 2006 at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia, was first aired November 15 and was hosted by comedian Katt Williams.

The second ceremony was held on October 13, 2007 and aired on October 17 of the same year. Like its predecessor, the ceremony was also held at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, and was hosted by Katt Williams. The third ceremony premiered on October 23, 2008. This ceremony was not hosted by Katt Williams, but instead was hosted by popular R&B and hip hop artist T-Pain. The fourth ceremony was held on October 10, 2009 and was hosted by Mike Epps and aired on October 27.

The fifth ceremony was held on October 2, 2010 (aired October 12) and was also by hosted Mike Epps. Epps would go on to host two additional years (2011 & 2012), while Snoop Dogg hosted in 2013, 2014, and 2015. The 2016 show was hosted by DJ Khaled. During the TDE cypher, artist Kendrick Lamar subliminally dissed rappers Papoose and Drake.

Meanwhile, the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) “Artiste of the Decade” in his acceptance speech dedicated this success to his daughter Adalyn Owusu Addo (Titi) and used the opportunity to urge the African diaspora to visit Ghana as part of the Year of Return celebrations.

Sarkodie is on the verge of releasing his “Black Love” Album which has 3-tracks officially out and accompanied with outstanding visuals.
