For far too long, Ghanaian Record Labels have been very adamant leaving young and upcoming acts with no other option than to hustle their own way out to becoming relevant in the industry, and certainly, the recent happenings in the industry won’t change that fact.
The first half of the year 2019 can be concluded as unsuccessful within the camp of talent management and music recording label, Black Avenue Muzik(BAM), as the media entity has recorded series of talent terminating their contractual dealings from the firm.
Barely nine months after signing highlife artiste, Wisa Greid, Black Avenue Muzik signed five more with two being females under the umbrella of the Black Avenue Music(BAM) to cover a broad spectrum in the industry from highlife and hiplife, Jazz, contemporary Christian music, Dancehall, Reggae, Rock and so on.
Ghana’s most bankable record label Black Avenue Muzik(BAM) accumulated talents such as Sefa, Nina Richie, Kobla Jnr, Rony and Dahlin Gage, allocating and tasking different professional sound engineers to enhance their work.
However, the narative of the good news have changed, barely two years into the contract, as three, Freda Rhymz, Dahlin Gage and Wisa Greid out of the five talent signed to the music record label have part ways with the firm. This has been a heavy blow on the face of the media company.
FREDA RHYMZ
After a year of working together, Black Avenue Muzik and rapper Freda Rhymz ended their relationship. Even though their initial contract made room for an extension, both parties have agreed not to renew their production and business management agreement.
During her stint with the label, Freda Rhymz received nominations in some awards schemes including ‘Best Female Act’ at the Ghana Entertainment Awards 2019 the USA and ‘Best Next Rated Act’ at the 2019 edition of the 3Music Awards.
Born Freda Baffour Awua, Freda Rhymz made history by emerging the winner of the sixth season of the MTN Hitmaker music reality show. She is the first female to win that reality show.
After winning the reality show, Black Avenue Muzik, Charterhouse Ghana, and MTN Ghana came into an agreement for the former to assume production and managerial role of the artiste. However, the relationship between Freda and Black Avenue Muzik is no longer extant.
WISA GREID
Ghanaian singer, Wisa Gried born Eugene Ashie officially parted ways with D-Black’s Black Avenue Muzik a few weeks after the departure of female rapper Freda Rhymz.
Not long ago, the singer made it known that he might be leaving the record label soon even though his contract with the label has not ended.Just after a year of having a working relationship with them, the singer has decided to part ways with the label.
In a recent post he shared on Facebook, the ‘Ekiki me’ hitmaker announced his exit from the label while promoting his new single ‘Dance for me’ featuring Darkovibes and Kelvyn Boy.
DAHLIN GAGE
Sensational afrobeat/highlife singer, Dahlin Nii Nortey Noi professionally known as, Dahlin Gage has terminated his contract with D-Black’s Black Avenue Muzik on mutual terms after working together for 2 and half years.
The ”Big Cassava” crooner is said to have been the first to request a termination of contract with the talent management organisation, which was later confirmed to patrons via a social media post he made on his handle. Dahlin Gage signed to Black Avenue Muzik 2 years ago and has to his credit couple of hit songs accompanied with music videos. He has also graced several music events throughout the nation.
Even though their initial contract made room for an extension, both parties have agreed not to renew their production and business management agreement. This comes as an unfortunate news to the label.
However, Dahlin Gage appreciated the works and supports from the team at Black Avenue Muzik(BAM), urging fans to keep the support glowing as there are more good music set to unleash.
Owned by, Music and Business Mogul, Desmond Blackmoore, known as D Black, Black Avenue Muzik is an independent record label founded in 2008 by Award winning Ghanaian Hiphop artist. Looking at the enormous departure of talents from the label, the picture is being painted as though the music company is redrawing from talent management. Let’s hope these talents who have parted ways won’t tarnish the good works of the record label, as it is believed that, the talent hub has all the necessary technical know-how to elevate Ghana music.
