Brooklyn Museum has released official merchandise for Virgil Abloh: Figures of Speech, a retrospective exhibit that highlights Abloh’s undeniable impact on contemporary culture.
The collection consists of everything from Champion pullover hoodies and trucker hats to short-sleeve tees and canvas totes—most of which were conceptualized by Abloh in 2019, about two years before his death. There’s also a handful of home goods pieces in the range, including coffee mugs, an exhibit poster, a sticker set, and the Figure of Speech catalog book, which marks its first publication in over a year. The catalog, published by DelMonico Books, was created for the exhibit’s 2019 launch at Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art. Figures of Speech will be exclusively available at the Brooklyn Museum until it’s released to worldwide retailers in August.
The limited-edition items will be sold through the “Church & State” shop, which also offers Off-White pieces inspired by the exhibit. These include smoking jackets, T-shirts, hoodies, handbags, a couture dress, and chairs from Abloh’s Gradient Furniture collection.
The Figures of Speech merch collection are available now online as well as the Church & State shop. Those who purchase tickets to the exhibit will have access to the retail space. The presentation kicked off Friday and will continue until Jan. 29, 2023; the Brooklyn museum will release additional merch during that time.
“We wanted to make this the biggest,” Brooklyn Museum director Anne Pasternak told WWD about the show. “He considered all of the tables the objects are on to be sculptures. Since time had passed since the first show opened, we wanted to add a bit more of the clothing to show and because of his passing we wanted to show a bit of his archival work to show where he was coming from.”
