Prosecutors in Chicago on Tuesday dropped charges against “Empire” star Jussie Smollett who was accused of staging a homophobic and racist attack against himself.
CNBC reports that Smollett’s attorneys Tina Glandian and Patricia Brown Holmes in a statement said: “Today, all criminal charges against Jussie Smollett were dropped and his record has been wiped clean of the filing of this tragic complaint against him.”
“Jussie was attacked by two people he was unable to identify on January 29th,” the statement continued.
Smollett was indicted on 16 felony counts related to making a false report that he was attacked by two men.
AP reports that a spokeswoman for Cook County prosecutors didn’t immediately responded to messages requesting comment.
