Government of Ghana Launches Diaspora Summit to Strengthen Global Partnerships and Drive Economic Transformation

The Diaspora Summit 2025, an attempt to strengthen ties between Ghana and its international diaspora while utilising their networks, resources, and experience to boost national development, has been formally launched.

Members of the diplomatic corps, government representatives, dignitaries, and important diaspora players graced the launch, which took place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, spoke at the occasion and emphasised the government’s dedication to presenting the diaspora as a crucial component of Ghana’s development and growth.

“Today’s launch of the Diaspora Summit marks the reaffirmation of our nation’s enduring commitment to building bridges of opportunity, partnership, and shared destiny between Ghana and her cherished diaspora community across the globe,” he said.

The Minister highlighted that the Summit would offer a forum to transform discussions into real effects, especially in fields like investment, innovation, healthcare, education, and cross-cultural interactions.

“Our brothers and sisters abroad continue to play a vital role in shaping the image of our nation, investing in our economy, and contributing to the transfer of knowledge, skills, and networks,” he stated.

Mr. Ablakwa reassured the expatriate community that Ghana is fostering an atmosphere that is favourable to long-term investment and the expansion of the private sector, highlighting President John Dramani Mahama’s “Reset Agenda.”

“Ghana, your home, is ready for business. Your investments are not safe merely because it is your home, but because your government is building a congenial environment for you and our people to thrive and to help with nation-building,” he affirmed.

The Minister referred to the diaspora as Ghana’s “17th Region” and reaffirmed the vital role that Ghanaians residing overseas play in the nation’s socioeconomic change.

“The diaspora is not apart from Ghana; they are a part of Ghana. Your stories, talents, and sacrifices enrich the national fabric, and this Summit is a celebration of your invaluable place in our development agenda,” he noted.
