Jahi Presents ‘The Intersection Between Hip Hop And Education’.

Yoyo Tinz, the Accra based organisation aiming to promote, archive and document the hip hop culture in Africa and organisers of the yoyo tinz festival, will host Jahi this Thursday 26th September at 7pm at Terra Alta, Abelemkpe Junction, Dzorwulu for a special edition of yoyo tinz palabre as the US based rapper premieres The Intersection on the African continent.

The Intersection between Hip Hop Culture & Education, is a family friendly, interactive and engaging discovery, demonstration, performance and lecture series presenting Hip Hop as a world culture with life affirming principles – counteracting the prevailing narrative of commercial rap music by lifting up messages that speak to social change.

The Intersection has been presented at The Charles Wright Museum in Detroit, The George Washington Carver Museum in Austin, The Harvey B. Gantt Center in Charlotte, MOCA Cleveland, The Chabot Space and Science Center in Oakland, The Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco, The Northwest African American Museum in Seattle, The Oakland Museum of California, Science Gallery Dublin, Ireland, and Khartoum Contemporary Art Center in Oslo, Norway and will be presented for the very first time on the African continent Thursday 26th September 2019 at Terra Alta.

Jahi, originally from Cleveland, now residing in Oakland, California is a MC, Artist, Educator, and former school executive. Jahi is a member of Public Enemy’s DJ-MC unit with Chuck D, DJ Lord, and the original S1W’s. Jahi, as PE 2.0, continues the cultural legacy of Public Enemy in music, visuals and performances. PE 2.0 has released 4 albums, one on vinyl, 6 music videos and one world tour.

Jahi overall has released 15 albums, has toured and released music internationally, as has been focusing on museums for the last 5 years as a way to expand the conversation around Hip Hop Culture. In addition, Jahi is a drum maker as well as provides professional development for school districts nationally around culture and climate site plans, and teacher training around Hip Hop pedagogy. He is currently visiting Ghana and decided to offer a free event to hip hop lovers of Ghana’s capital city.

The event will include a performance by Jahi and Accra based rapper, as well as a DJ set of a selection of Ghanaian hip hop tracks.
