Chelsea and Italy midfielder Jorginho has been named 2021/21 UEFA Men’s Player of the Year. The 29-year-old, who last season became only the tenth player to win a European Cup and a EURO in the same year, beat off competition from Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and Chelsea team-mate N’Golo Kanté. The award was announced during the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League group stage draw in Istanbul.
N’Golo Kanté has also been named Midfielder of the Season for the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League. The French international, 30, beat off competition from Jorginho and Kevin De Bruyne after a remarkable campaign that concluded with Player of the Match performances in the semi-finals and final. The award was presented to Kanté during the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League group stage draw ceremony in Istanbul.
Edouard Mendy was named Goalkeeper of the Season for the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League. The French-born Senegal international, 29, beat off competition from Manchester City’s Ederson and Real Madrid No1 Thibaut Courtois to cap a remarkable rise from unemployment just seven years ago. The award was presented to Mendy during the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League group stage draw ceremony in Istanbul.
