MUSIGA Register Cleaned from 2700 to 744 Voters

The Musicians Union of Ghana – MUSIGA has cleaned its voter’s register from 2,700 registered voters to 744 eligible voters.

The decision was necessitated after Ras Caleb Appiah-Levi, a MUSIGA presidential aspirant sought an injunction in court for what he considered as breaches in the electoral process especially from the roadmap up to the situation of the voter’s list/notice of musicians list.

Smart Nkansah, Chairman of the Elections Committee in a meeting of the National Elections Committee and aspirants for MUSIGA National Elections on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 revealed that the downsizing of the voter’s register from 2,700 to 744 was based on the new guidelines discussed with the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Dr. Ziblim Iddi and agreed at the National Executive meeting.

It was resolved that new members who are one-year-old are not eligible to vote. Old members who did not renew their cards by May 31, 2019, are also exempted from voting based on the agreed guidelines which were endorsed by the NEC.

The new MUSIGA voter register has also been compiled on a regional basis and will be exhibited at the various regional offices prior to the elections.

The regional breakdown is as follows;

Greater Accra Region – 278

Ashanti Region – 160

Brong Ahafo Region – 41

Central Region – 32

Eastern Region – 10

Northern Region – 58

Upper West Region – 54

Upper East Region – 31

Volta Region – 61

Western Region – 19

The National Elections Committee and the national executive aspirants will on Friday, September 20, 2019, will again meet the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Dr. Ziblim Iddi to further deliberate on the agreed road-map.
