Kumasi Asante Kotoko stunned Accra Hearts of Oak in a dramatic penalty shoot-out at the Accra Sports Stadium to qualify for the finals of the ‘maiden’ Normalisation Committee(NC) Special Competion League.
It was a keenly contested game that lasted within an exciting and dramatic 90minutes of actions, seeing both teams finding the back of the net once and had to be settled on penalties, where the pride of the Ashantis, Kumasi Asante won by 5 goals to 4 goals over the home team.
An early first half goal from Abdul Fatawu Saudi put the Porcupine Warriors on the brink of victory away from home territory but Cristopher Bonney levelled things up on the 92nd minute with a bullet penalty kick and ended the game in a penalty shoot out.
The tournament which gave Asante Kotoko their greatest agony after Ghana’s sporting event, precisely football was brought to a halt, abruptly due to some indecencies and code breaching activities that occured within the Ghana Football Association.
However, Koffi Kodji, Cristopher Bonney and Toure Abubakar were all successful for Accra Hearts of Oak whiles, Abdul Ganiyu, Evans Owusu, Abdul Fatawu, and Jordan Opoku were all on target for Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
The momentum shifted decisively when Mo-Hassan denied his men a chance to book a place in the finals of the Normalisation Committee Special Competition after he missed the Phobian’s last and decisive spot-kick that left the Phobians on the brink and present Fabulous’ Amos Frimpong with his moment of destiny
Kumasi Asante Kotoko are through to the final, up against Karela who won the other semifinal 1-0 late in the game against Ashantigold kind courtesy Diawisie Taylor. The two finalists now vie for a Confederation of African Football(CAF) Champions League spot.
