Perceived to be a profession for mostly school dropouts and the sexually perverse, Lyna-Paula defied the tags associated with make-up artistry.
The Special Effect Artist, Paulina Esinu Agropah also known as Lyna-Paula who started off as a natural in make-up artistry said that despite the tag associated with a make-up artist as sexually perverse, she is among the few who won’t trade her body for favors and contracts in the industry.
In an interview with www.asiwomewrites.com, Lyna-Paul revealed she won’t fault people who come up with funny and crazy comments like,
“make-up profession is for the sexually perverse mainly to sustain their livelihood. Some make-up artists dress sensually, exposing their body which to them is enlightenment to get contracts. Some at the end of the day get men to sleep with them”.
Someone once told me, if I don’t sleep with him, he won’t get me contracts. How can I exchange my body for contracts? It’s not worth it. If you are good, you are good. It’s God who pushes people and that is what I believe in,” she added.
Lyna-Paula started as a make-up artist when she was disappointed by her make-up artist on her matriculation day at Accra Technical University. Out of disappointment, she unearthed her God-given talent in make-up artistry. She began as pure talent and later enrolled in Cosmic School of Artistry, an online training school in the US.
“I got disappointed on the day of my matriculation in Accra Technical University from my make-up artist who got everyone else except me make-up. Out of disappointment, I tried my hands on getting myself make-up for the graduation which came out nice and got my friends impressed. From there, I started getting little contracts and that was how I landed up in being a beauty and special effect make-up artist,” Lyna-Paula revealed.
Like every growing child, Lyna-Paula desired to pursue education and becoming a manager and to work in a corporate institution but the talent of creating things out of imaginations led her to the Make-Up artistry. Her love for movies especially the Behind-The-Scenes inspired her to also pursue the Special Effect in addition.
The decision to chart the make-up and special effect artistry came with lots of resistance because of the growing negative perception associated with people into the profession through which she lost certain important relationships.
Miss Paulina Agropah who is a final year student at the Accra Technical University studying Marketing believes that the world is evolving technologically and Ghanaians are beginning to appreciate the arts, especially in Special Effects.
“I think there is a brighter future if there are more encouragement and motivations from Ghanaians and the make-up industry,” she said
Speaking on her future pIan and projects, the ambitious and daring Special Effects Make-Up artist would want to use her skills in creating human parts.
“As part of my vision, I want to one day start creating prosthetics for the disabled for free as part of my core social responsibility,’she envisioned.
Paulina Esinu Agropah is the CEO and lead trainer of The Second Look (TLS) Beauty Trendz offering training to people in the beauty industry. She has over her short period of practice worked with a few musicians such as Fancy Gadam, Selina Boateng, Kwaku Gyasi, Kafui Chordz among others. She has also provided her services for the Celebrity Delivery TV Show on GhOne, Queens Arena on Joy Prime and Entrepreneur 101 on Citi TV.
She worked on an upcoming movie called “The Prime” with another one coming next month
