Spotify highlights Ayra Starr on its RADAR Global Program | WATCH DOCUMENTARY

Spotify has added Nigerian vocal sensation Ayra Starr to its marquee global emerging artist programme, RADAR Global.

The program was established in 2020 to provide developing artists with marketing and editorial assistance in order to help them grow their fan bases. RADAR has increased listening and strengthened fan-artist connections since its inception, while also supporting emerging artists and paving their way to superstardom through comprehensive marketing, content, and editorial campaigns.

As part of her benefits, the Mavin Records signed artiste, who has 2.5 million monthly Spotify listeners and has also featured as part of the DSP’s Equal campaign as artist of the month and on Radar Africa, will be featured on the RADAR Global playlist and highlighted in special content, including a mini documentary about her upbringing and rise in the music industry, all of which is available for streaming below.

She joins Ghanaian rapper Black Sherif as the programme’s alumi whose creative works were amplified by the streamer in the region through marketing and editorial support.

“Growing up, I knew I was going to be a musician. Since I was 6, 7, I used to argue in church with choir when they say I can’t take the lead role. I’d say, ‘When I become a superstar, you’re not going to tell me that,” the now 20-year-old artist says in the 11-minute Spotify-produced documentary.

The 20-year-old singer is a burgeoning Nigerian Afro-Pop and R&B singer whose charismatic music style is daring and undaunted—impacting and empowering people, especially those who need encouragement.

Ayra Starr is best known for her well-received singles ‘Bloody Samaritan’ and ‘Away’, off the 2021 EP Ayra Starr, as well as her debut album 19 & Dangerous, which explores relationships, betrayal, and self-assurance. On 19 & Dangerous, the artist chronicles the transition from adolescence to adulthood. The first song from her eponymous debut EP, “Away,” reached No. 17 on Billboard’s Top Triller Global chart.
