YEAR of RETURN: The Best Places To Visit In Greater Accra – Ghana.

You probably just arrived in Accra for the first time for the Year of Return celebrations and you’re wondering what the City has to offer and places you can visit, or maybe you’re just a guy or lady who loves hanging out and discovering new “chilling zones” and don’t know where to pin your next location. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. We’ve done the groundwork for you! Here are the best places hang out in Accra. Note: This list is organized in no particular order.

Republic Bar

Republic Bar remains one of the best bars in Accra right now, thanks to its relaxed approach to the good things in life: alcohol, fried food and really great music. It’s a tiny space that tumbles out onto the street when things really kick off, late on a Friday or Saturday. Album covers and black-and-white photos of music stars adorn the walls as Ghanaian music blasts out (there are often jaw-dropping highlife music acts live on the terrace; check out the Facebook page for details. Coco Lounge

If you are looking for upscale? You’ve found it. This place reminds of the US where every detail was thought out. You can tell that it caters to expats and anybody needing a good background for cool selfies. From the leather bar seating to the tilework in the private dining room, the attention to detail in Coco Lounge is quite amazing.

The pizza oven is dressed up as an old Italian truck and a sight to behold. Incredible space for sure, so what about the food? The tight menu of mains includes sandwiches, burgers and fish and chips. Plus there’s a wide range of salad dishes, rice bowls and that wood-fired pizza. But what’s really amazing is the price. For an experience like this, it’s all very reasonably priced. Poppin in for a weekday lunch doesn’t seem remotely extravagant. Visit Coco Lounge

Bloom Bar

Really nice bar and ambience, with good music (Afrobeat, hip hop, R&B). The vibe turns up as the night progresses! Ensure that you arrive early (before 11pm) to beat the queues.

Bloom Bar

If you’re looking to chill or turn up- bloom bar has it all. Definitely one of our fav bars in Accra! The owners and staff are cool, the venue is well kept, and the decor is modern. It’s calm in the early hours for people who just want to lounge and enjoy the atmosphere. The venue turns up later in the evening because the DJ is amazing and it gets packed! It’s a hotspot so you’re bound to bump into someone you know. Whether you’re with friends or family it never disappoints. Love their light food menu as well as their drinks. Visit Bloom bar

Urban Grill

Urban Grill is one of those restaurants that breathes quality: the food, the décor and the ambience are all superlative. It’s located at Icon House, a building that also hosts the equally-hyped Coco Lounge, Vida Caffé and La Maison, all from the same team that started Santoku. This group of eateries has seriously raised the bar in Ghana in terms of food, service and interior design. So what of Urban Grill itself? At its heart, it is a high-end steak house. The meat is corn-fed and imported directly from Nebraska, then cooked over a charcoal grill to perfection. The best steak in Ghana? We think so.

Urban Grill

From the luxurious main dining room to Jimmy’s Whisky Bar, and the Don Perignon VIP Room both with intimate booth-style seating or The Cactus Moon bar on the terrace, The Urban Grill is the place to meet and eat in a modern and sophisticated atmosphere.

Urban Grill serves a range of deliciously grilled USDA graded American beef together with seafood and fresh local ingredients. From exceptional food to great service and delicious cocktails, Urban Grill is the perfect venue to celebrate. Choose the Don Perignon VIP Room, the main private room and the Terrace or the restaurant space for events of up to 200 people. Urban Grill is excited to welcome you for either lunch, dinner or drinks.”Visit Urban Grill

+233 Jazz Bar & Grill

If you want a serene atmosphere to hangout with your family then you can consider Jazz Bar & Grill. Jazz is food to the soul. We had such a great night here! One to remember. Fantastic live band performing outdoors (it was an R&B band on the night we were there, but I understand that there is a good range of genres depending on what night it is). What a lovely atmosphere. People just out to have a good time. Waiter service at tables for drinks was very quick. +233 Jazz Bar & Grill is Ghana’s premiere Jazz and Live Music Club. If you love Jazz, that’s the place to be. The Honey suckle

The Honeysuckle

I went here one evening with work colleagues. First impressions were how strikingly English it was, you would not think you were in Ghana, so obviously it is another favourite for expats. This place truly caters to the footballers and smokers. For those into sports, there are many TV sets and the ambiance is fantastic.

Food is always good. Match day can be busy and tables soon get taken up. Well worth a visit and prices inexpensive really and relative to other bars, restaurants. Overall impression – It’s like an English pub before the smoking ban. Good for an evening drink and catch up with mates. Visit Honey Suckle

Bojo Beach Resort

Time to sway a little from the bars and pubs. I know the title says places to be in Accra. This is a little off but the fact is, if you’re residing in the city, you definitely have to visit this place! Bojo Beach Resort is natures best kept secret in Ghana. It is situated on a man-made island, This facility is totally unique as guest enjoy a boat ride on the Densu river to get to the luxurious Atlantic ocean white powdered sand beach to swim, play games and socialise. Its quite a drive from Accra but totally worth it, knocks Labadi Beach into a corner, but dont tell everyone else they will all go, worth going early in the morning so you get the best of the day.

Bojo Beach Resort

Excellent place to stay, in particular during the workdays; busy at weekends, but quiet during the week. Very friendly staff, clean and very comfortable (almost luxury) rooms, met the owner, he is competent and knows how to make your stay an event. Highly recommended! Visit Bojo Beach Resort

Aqua Safari Resort

Aqua Safari is an expansive resort within a small piece of Ghanaian paradise. The resort is well manicured, and home to a variety of exotic birds that roam freely within the grounds. There are also plenty of very pleasant and willing members of staff who are always on hand to help. The resort has a number of room options to suit different budgets.

The resort also has a range of extracurricular land and water activities for guests. Highly recommend taking a boat ride down the river and seeing the sites that Ada has to offer. And finally, the restaurant hosts a wide variety of food options. Would recommend a stay here or a short day trip
