Abronye DC Granted GH¢50,000 Bail with One Surety

Without explanation, Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been given GH¢50,000 bail with one surety.

His lead attorney, Daniel Mantey Addo, acknowledged the development, saying that the decision was a relief for Abronye’s family and the legal team due to his declining health. In order to secure his release, efforts are now being made to meet the bail conditions.

Abronye’s arrest last week and subsequent imprisonment prior to his court appearance were verified by the Ghana Police Service in a statement released on Monday, September 8.

Even though the police did not reveal the precise behaviour that resulted in his detention, the vocal politician has garnered a lot of public attention lately for his divisive statements and deeds.

Abronye was placed under one week of police prison by the Accra Circuit Court on Friday, September 12, after being charged with two counts of “offensive conduct conducive to a breach of the peace.” On September 19, he is anticipated to make another court appearance.

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has accused the administration of targeting opposition figures in response to the decision, which has caused political controversy. They contend that Abronye DC’s arrest and ongoing detention are part of a conscious effort to use the legal system and state security forces as weapons against political rivals.

In the meantime, the New Patriotic Party has declared that it will protest what it claims is state-sponsored persecution of its members by the Ghana Police Service by holding a demonstration on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
