The Golden Globe-winning actor, Taraji P. Henson, will return as the host of the 2022 BET Awards, the organizers and producers announced.
Culture’s biggest night in entertainment will be broadcast live on Sunday, June 26, 2022, on BET at 8 pm ET/PT from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The celebrated filmmaker and philanthropist hosted the event for the first time during its 21st edition, which took place on June 27, 2021.
“I am honored to return as the host of the BET Awards and share the stage with so many powerful and prolific artists; you can even say it is the ‘empire’ of Black Excellence,” said Henson. “Working with amazing partners like Scott and Connie at BET and Jesse Collins Entertainment is a creative’s dream. I can’t wait to celebrate Black music, entertainment, and culture with our viewers on what will be one unforgettable night.”
The “Acrimony” star has featured in some of Hollywood’s most critically acclaimed projects, over the last decade, including her iconic role as “Cookie Lyon” in Fox’s hit musical drama Empire; three Emmy nominations; a Golden Globe Award; a Critics’ Choice Award; and three BET Awards.
The nominees for the 2022 edition were announced yesterday by the Black Entertainment Television network, and they include African musicians: Nigeria’s Wizkid, Tems, and Fireboy; the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Fally Ipupa; and South Africa’s Major League Djz. Meanwhile, Doja Cat has received the most nominations for the 2022 BET Awards, with six.
Since its inception in 2001, the BET Awards have honored artists, entertainers, athletes, and philanthropists in over 20 categories. This year’s nominees, according to the organizers, represent a wealth of creative expression and black excellence in music, television, film, and sports.
