Viewers on DStv will be treated to some prime footballing action from the 2019/20 EFL League Cup – also known as the Carabao Cup for sponsorship reasons – which will hold its Fourth Round on the midweek of 29-30 October 2019.
This phase of the competition sees some of the Premier League‘s biggest heavyweights go to battle with one another, in particular on the evening of Wednesday 30 October when Liverpool host Arsenal (LIVE on SuperSport 4) and Manchester United head to London to face Chelsea (LIVE on SuperSport 3 and Maximo 1).
The meeting of the Reds and the Gunners at Anfield will be a first cup game between the teams for more than five years (the last was a 2-1 win for Arsenal in the 2013/14 FA Cup) and sees Jurgen Klopp looking to continue on a path to his first domestic piece of silverware with the club. Liverpool also have the psychological edge over Arsenal, having beaten the London side 3-1 in a league meeting as recently as late August.
Another crunch game from the League Cup sees Chelsea welcome Man United to Stamford Bridge for the late kick-off on Wednesday. The Red Devils notably defeated the Blues 4-0 on the opening weekend of the Premier League season back in August, but while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team have struggled to build anything on that platform, Frank Lampard’s exciting team have grown immensely and will be confident of avenging that loss.
Another game for SuperSport viewers to look forward to in this round of the League Cup is a West Midlands derby between Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers (LIVE on SuperSport 5). It will be the teams’ first League Cup meeting (in fact, first cup meeting of any kind) since a 1-0 win for Villa in the 1996/97 edition of this competition.
The Carabao Cup’s Fourth Round also features two all-Premier League clashes on Tuesday night, Everton v Watford (LIVE on SuperSport 5) and Manchester City v Southampton (LIVE on SuperSport 3 & Maximo 1), Leicester City face a tricky trip away to Burton Albion (LIVE on SuperSport 4), one of Crawley Town or Colchester United will advance into the quarterfinals, and Sunderland will look to get the better of Oxford United at Grenoble Road.
