Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old Utah resident, was named by authorities on Friday as the main suspect in the murder of conservative businessman and activist Charlie Kirk. Following Kirk’s deadly shooting at Utah Valley University earlier this week, a nationwide manhunt engulfed the United States.
The New York Post reported law enforcement sources that said Robinson was arrested Friday after his father assisted in the surrender. In a live television interview, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed the arrest, saying, “We have him with a high degree of certainty.”
The Charlie Kirk suspect’s arrest is a watershed in a case that has rocked the nation’s political and cultural landscape. Kirk, 31, was shot while speaking in front of more than 3,000 people at a Turning Point USA event in Orem, Utah.
Around noon on Wednesday, the gunman reportedly fired from a rooftop position, striking Kirk in the neck with one round. Kirk passed away in the hospital shortly after receiving treatment, despite prompt medical attention.
The FBI, local police, and federal marshals were all involved in the intense manhunt that followed the tragedy. Surveillance footage of a person in black running across a university rooftop was released by authorities. Up to $100,000 was offered as a reward for information that would result in the suspect’s apprehension.
