Every regional capital will become a duty-free zone if I’m elected President – Dr Bawumia

Presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party [NPP] Dr Bawumia has announced that every regional capital in the country will have a duty-free zone if elected as President in 2028.

The former Vice President made his intentions known during a recent engagement with delegates of the New Patriotic Party ahead of its Presidential primaries.

At the engagement, Dr Bawumia emphasised on his vision to create employment opportunities if elected President of the Republic.

According to him, to create more jobs and expand business under his Presidency, he will allocate a duty-free zone to each regional capital.

In anticipation of the general elections in 2028, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that its presidential primary will take place on January 31, 2026.

The party’s National Executive Committee and National Council authorised the date during an emergency meeting on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the Alisa Hotel.

With a number of prominent individuals slated to run for the position of NPP leader in the 2028 elections, the next primaries are anticipated to get a lot of attention.

These include former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and former Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
