Ghana World Cup Winner Ransford Osei Retires From Football At Age 30

2009 U-20 World Cup winner Ransford Osei has announced his retirement from football at just the age of 30.

The striker made the announcement in an interview with Humble Ike on Youtube from his residence in Germany.

Ransford Osei in his career featured for 11 clubs, namely; Kessben (Medeama), Maccabi Haifa, Berekum Chelsea, FC Twente, Granada B, Bloemfontein Celtic, Kotoko, Polokwane City, RoPS, Santa Claus and Palanga.

Osei came to the limelight when he won the Golden boot at the 2007 African Under-17 Championship and Silver boot at the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

The clinical forward helped Ghana win the 2009 African Youth Championship in Rwanda and the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt. He won the Golden boot at the African Youth Championship.

Rashford Osei was described by FIFA.com as “an opportunistic goal machine” with superb pace and movement in 2007. In the same year, he was recognized by World Soccer Magazine as one of the 50 Most Exciting Teenagers on the Planet.

Osei will have his name written in Ghana’s football history but he will go down as one of the youngsters who shone at youth tournaments but failed to maximized their potential later on in football.
