GIJ Demonstration! We Weren’t Notified – Management

Management of the Ghana Institute of Journalism ( GIJ) has stated that students who demonstrated against course deferment order didn’t notify them before embarking on the demonstration exercise.

Students of the institution had earlier on 23rd March 2021 demonstrated against order from management which ordered them to have deferred their programmes for paying their fees after deadline.

” Management of the Ghana Institute of Journalism after it’s meeting held on Monda 22nd, March 2021 decided that students who paid their fees after the registration deadline should defer their program.

All affected students are to take note of this directive and act accordingly” Management of the institution wrote in a Press statement.

However, reversing the order after a meeting held on Wednesday 25th March, management accused students who demonstrated of issuing threats, untruths and insults against them.

They say they had consistently engaged with students about payment of their fees and registration since 2018 when they embarked on a demonstration on a similar issue.

They reversing earlier course deferment order in their statement stressed out that they have listened to plea of the students and accepted their apology, granting them a general amnesty to complete their registration.

” Affected students should immidiately produce their receipts at the Academic Affairs Registry to complete registration process. This opportunity to register shall expire in five (5) working days from today, on Thursday 1 April, 2021, Any student with special case should contact the Registrar’s Office to avail themselves of any opportunities available for students with exceptional circumstances and difficulties” Part of the statement read.
