Singer and Afrobeats star, Kelvyn Boy has said that he never knew Highlife legend, Oheneba Kissi was the brain behind popular and major ‘ASEM BEN NI’ hit song before using a line from it.
Oheneba Kissi had earlier threatened to sue the former Burniton Music Group [BMG] act for using a verse from his ‘Asem Ben Ni’ song without his consent.
Kelvyn Boy in his ‘Na You’ song featuring his former boss and dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy used a verse from the 80’s legendary Highlife act’s song.
Speaking in an interview on ‘Showbiz Agenda’ on Zylofon FM with Sammy Flex, the ‘MEA’ hitmaker stressed out that he got to know Oheneba Kissi was the artiste behind ‘ASEM BEN NI’ after his ‘NA YOU’ single.
”I never knew Oheneba even sung that song. you know sometimes you would hear a song and wouldn’t even know the artiste who sung it. I even finished recording before I got to know that he sung the song. Is not as if I knew and refused to do the right thing”
he said.
According to him, he didn’t intentionally use the verse without seeking the Highlife act’s consent.
He says he looks forward to seeing a day an old act would appreciate and celebrate an upcoming act for using his verse in his song.
Kelvyn boy believes that legends and old acts should celebrate young talents for using their verses in their songs.
”I want a day a legend will go on a TV or radio station and say he heard a verse from his song in an upcoming act’s song and he was happy. I just want a day a legend will pass such positive comment”
