‘ChopLife’ star, King Promise in a recent Twitter quote gave big-ups to the artist who helped discover his now coveted rise to fame, Supa Gaeta.
King Promise is very much known today. He is one of the country’s biggest exports to date, an award-winning act who drops sweltering back-to-back hits with ease. But prior to being the crowned head of Afrobeat in Ghana it was fellow musician and producer, Supa Gaeta who put him on or as King Promise’s own quote reads: ‘’my g! First person to take me to the studio. God Bless you brother”.
Reaching out to Supa Gaeta, an artist whose works with King Promise, E.L, Medikal, Oxlade, Blaqbonez and co. are no secret to Ghanaian music fanatics, he shared “We connected at an Internet cafe, where I was known as a rapper from school. He told me he had heard my freestyles I had recorded at home which was popular on Hulkshare and would love to work with me, we started recording in my parents living room with a laptop and a headset microphone’’.
‘’I absolutely loved his voice the moment I heard him sing, I knew he would become great… so I was happy to give him some studio time after getting a gist of what he could do. He was good! Back then I was recording at Bliss Drums Studio in Comm. 1, Tema. I brought him in a couple of times, encouraged him to never let go and before you know it, we recorded his first song. Next thing? King Promise was all over the airwaves. I’m proud every time I see how far he’s come”.
A producer and Afro-fusion artist himself, Supa Gaeta (Solomon Boako-Aggrey) began to enter the mainstream back in 2018. He achieved this by frequently posting skits and freestyles to his social media, quickly coming to the attention of Afrobeat lovers and receiving nods from industry giants and critics alike. It was a simple yet effective formula that saw the birth of his music career; a debut EP ‘Renegade’ (2018) and its more successful follow-up ‘Supa SZN – EP’ (2020). Production-wise, Supa Gaeta leans closer to sounds that stay true to Hip-Hop, Dancehall and Afrobeat.
