King Promise scores a MOBO awards nomination

The UK’s most prestigious celebration of Black music and culture – the MOBO Awards – have announced their 2021 nominees, ahead of the Awards’ return as a live show extravaganza on Sunday 5 December at Coventry Building Society Arena.

Ghana’s Highlife-Afrobeats artiste, King Promise, scored a nomination in the “Best Africa Music Act” category at this year’s edition of the event. The singer will be slugging it out with other African acts: Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, Ckay, Davido, King Promise, NSG, Rema
Tems, Tiwa Savage and Wizkid for the “Best African Music Act” Award.

The past 20 months have been extremely challenging for artists everywhere but as always creatives rise up and adapt, even in a global pandemic. King Promise has not only shown resilience but incredible talent and range that is worth celebrating.

MOBO will partner with YouTube and BBC for the second consecutive year to bring the Awards to a global audience. The ceremony will be live-streamed on YouTube on 5 December – tune in and hit ‘subscribe’ at youtube.com/mobotv .

BBC One will broadcast a special behind-the-scenes show which will include exclusive backstage content and never-before-seen performances and interviews from the award ceremony. BBC Radio 1Xtra will also be covering the awards starting on Monday 6 December, DJ Target will dedicate his weekday shows (7-9pm) to the MOBO Awards 2021 bringing listeners the hottest performances and exclusive interviews with this year’s nominees and winners.

While MOBO worked against all odds in 2020 by producing an award show amid a global pandemic, thanks to increased safety measures, the 24th MOBO Awards ceremony is looking to centre live entertainment once again, just as concerts and festivals return throughout the rest of the country.
