Mauricio Pochettino has been sacked by Tottenham after a dreadful run of results. The Argentinian manager, who had enjoyed such progress since moving to north London in 2014, culminating in reaching last season’s Champions League final, has watched his fortunes slump after a difficult summer.
They have taken 14 points from 12 matches this season and, in a larger sample size back to February, 25 from 24 games – in other words, relegation form.
The chairman, Daniel Levy, said: “We were extremely reluctant to make this change and it is not a decision the board has taken lightly, nor in haste.
“Regrettably domestic results at the end of last season and beginning of this season have been extremely disappointing.
“It falls on the board to make the difficult decisions – this one made more so given the many memorable moments we have had with Mauricio and his coaching staff – but we do so in the club’s best interests.”
