Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, the Director General of the Ghana Health Service has debunked an assertion made by the National Women’s Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Hannah Bissiw to the effect that the drones for medical supplies will capture naked photos of women in the rural communities.
According to Hannah Bissiw, the government intends to use the drones which have high-resolution cameras installed in them to film women bathing in the villages, and has, therefore, called on the village folks to reject the policy.
Benard Allotey Jacobs, the former Central Regional Chairman of the NDC as well as Sammy Gyamfi, the party’s National Communications Director have recently alleged that the drones will be used by the Akufo-Addo administration to rig the 2020 elections.
Reacting to the assertion made by the National Women’s Organizer of the opposition party, Dr Nsiah-Asare who is in charge of the programme has refuted that claim stating that the drones to be used in transporting the medical supplies have no installed cameras in the first place, let alone capture women bathing in the villages.
”The Medical Drones have no installed cameras so can’t take photos. Hannah Bissiw should try and learn or ask before she speaks. The Medical Drones are not like the drones used at functions. They are small unmanned cargo planes to deliver essential medical, non-medical, vaccines, blood and blood products to all health facilities within the catchment range of the Distribution Centres. The Medical Drones are not for only blood to CHPS Centres” Dr Nsiah-Asare countered in a Whatsapp group chat.
The Director General of the Ghana Health Service also used the occasion to query Hannah Bissiw over the record of her party in the eight years they were in power. He asked her how many ambulances the NDC government procured in their eight-year rule.
According to him, the decision by the Akufo-Addo administration to procure drones to ferry essential medicines including blood to places not easily accessible by vehicles has been met with stiff opposition from the opposition National Democratic Congress culminating in a series of commentaries from key persons within the party.
