At the #OccupyBoG demonstration in Accra, protesters assembled at Obra Spot to call for the resignation of the governor of the Bank of Ghana and his appointees. The demonstration is being coordinated by the NDC minority group in Parliament, pressure organization Arise Ghana and other groups.
The central bank’s governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, is charged with mismanaging it and driving it into insolvency by the demonstrators.
They also hold him accountable for overseeing careless spending, such as the $250 million building of the new Bank of Ghana headquarters.
The demonstrators plan to march from Obra Spot through Adabraka, Ridge Roundabout, the National Theatre Traffic Light, the High Court Complex Traffic Light, and the Atta Mills High Street.
They will then perform a U-turn at the National Lottery traffic light and end the demonstration in Independence Square.
Some of the members of parliament who have so far arrived at the protest include Madina MP Francis Xavier Sosu, North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Lawra MP Bede Ziedeng.
