President Mahama Confirms 200 Corruption-related cases under investigation

As part of his administration’s commitment to accountability and the recovery of stolen state resources, President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that more than 200 instances involving corruption are under investigation.

About 80 people had been questioned so far, he said, and several cases were already moving forward in court.

“Over 200 cases are under active investigation, with about 80 people interrogated so far. Several prosecutions have begun, progressing steadily and remain firmly on course,” the President stated when he addressed journalists at the Jubilee House in Accra.

Under the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) effort, President Mahama stated that the apparent lag in apprehending those responsible for the theft or disbursement of state cash did not equate to a stalled campaign against corruption.

Rather, he claimed, it was an essential dedication to justice, fairness, and the rule of law.

According to President Mahama, the government is committed to ensuring complete justice and rigorous adherence to due process.

He claimed that in order to guarantee fair and long-lasting results when they went to court, officials were constructing strong cases based on facts rather than rumours or speculation.

The trial in the Republic versus Adu Boahen and three others has begun, according to President Mahama, and the trial date for the SkyTrain case has been established.

He said that charges in the National Service Authority case had been prepared and will be submitted at the start of the new legal year, while the government was waiting for the Auditor-General to conduct a forensic audit before moving forward with the National Cathedral case.

President Mahama emphasised that the demand for due process made by his administration should not be interpreted as a lack of action.

“Yes, our insistence on doing things the right way may afford those who have looted this country some temporary relief, but let me be clear, it will not grant them permanent escape,” he stressed.

The President reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to restore integrity to public service by promising Ghanaians that any corruption case with adequate evidence will be handled “swiftly and firmly.”
