Real Madrid flop Eden Hazard ‘wants to return to Chelsea’ this summer

Eden Hazard wants to return to Chelsea this summer after a nightmare two-year spell at Real Madrid, according to reports in Spain.

Hazard developed into one of the best players in world football at Stamford Bridge, registering 110 goals in 352 games and winning two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League.

As a result of his fine form in west London, the Belgian secured a dream £100million switch to Madrid in 2019 – but it’s fair to say the move hasn’t gone to plan.

Injury problems have prevented him from making more than 16 La Liga appearances in each of his first two seasons at the Bernabeu, with only five goals to show for 43 outings.

And according to journalist Edu Aguirre, Hazard is now targeting a return to Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

Aguirre revealed on El Chiringuito late on Sunday night that the 30-year-old, who was heavily criticised after being seen laughing with Blues stars after Real’s elimination in the Champions League semi-finals at Stamford Bridge last month, wants to end his Madrid nightmare now the season is complete.

He believes Los Blancos chiefs are planning to launch a mega-bid for Paris St-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe, which would push him further down the pecking order at the club.

Mbappe only has one year remaining on his current PSG contract and has reportedly set his sights on leaving the French club either this summer or when it expires.

While Hazard is keen to head back to Chelsea, it is unclear whether re-signing him would appeal to current boss Thomas Tuchel.

His injury problems in Madrid mean bringing him back to Stamford Bridge would be a risk, and with three years still to run on his contract he would not come cheap.

Nevertheless, before their meeting with Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals Tuchel said about Hazard: “He is a top-quality player and a key player for many years at this club and this league, the hardest in the world. So consistent.

“I have the biggest respect for him. He is a big player.”
