Students Who Demonstrated Issued Threats – GIJ Management Claims

Management of the Ghana Institute of Journalism ( GIJ) has granted students who failed to register for their first semester of the 2020/ 2021 Academic Year an opportunity to register instead of deferring their programmes.

Management of the institution took the decision today 25th, March 2021 based on a petition received by student leaders who rendered an unqualified apology on behalf of demonstrating students.

Students had earlier demonstrated against management following it’s press statement, ordering them to defer their programmes for paying fees after deadline.

Reversing the order in a Press statement sighted by GBAFRICA.NET, management of the institution accused students who demonstrated against the order of issuing threats, untruths and insults against them.

They say they had consistently engaged with students of payment of their fees and registration since 2018.

According to them, they have continually served notices to students and extended registration deadlines with no penalty and provided opportunities for students with difficulties to utilize the institution’s processes in resolving their issues to enable them register.

” Students embarked on a demonstration on 23rd March 2021, without first notifying management and discussing their difficulties and this was rather unfortunate” Part of the statement read.
