“The highest amount I’ve received as royalties from Ghamro is ₵ 2,000,” Stonebwoy tells UK High Commissioner

Multiple award-winning Ghanaian musician, Stonebwoy paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy of Ghana, UK earlier today where he was welcomed by the High Commissioner Papa Owusu Ankoma. The visit is a cordial one to further strengthen his ties with the Ghanaian community in the UK through the high commission.

Lauding the contribution of the consulate earlier in his address shortly after exchanging pleasantries, Stonebwoy appreciated the His Excellency Papa Owusu-Ankoma support to Ghanaians living in Ghana and UK and highlighted the importance of the creative economy as a major drive of socio-economic growth in Ghana.

However, the Ghana’s ambassador to UK, Papa Owusu Ankoma, was utterly ‘dumbfounded’ after Stonebwoy disclosed the highest amount he’s received as royalties from Ghamro for his intellectual properties; a catalogue worth millions of cedis, since he started music professionally.

According to him, the highest amount he’s received as an artiste is ₵ 2,000 thus far. He explained that as independent artistes, they presumably have to accept what is available to them, and unfortunately their fate is at the mercy of the royalty collection organization, Ghamro, that seem unperturbed despite several complains.

The Nickelodeon Winner | 3-Time Best Reggae/Dancehall Act in Africa will be making a stop in the UK on August 28 to headline the YAM Carnival alongside King Beenie Man, Koffee, Davido, Patoranking, Fally Ipupa, and a tall list of other performers. He will deliver an immersive experience of music and more as festival goers gather to celebrate Black culture from across the globe, including food, lifestyle, and more.

He is still riding high off the success of his album Anloga Junction, the fourth studio album under the Burniton Music Group. The star-studded album was voted Album of the Year award in the Entertainment Achievement Awards and 3 Music Awards. The LP is also a recipient of Reggaeville Album of the Year recipient after the German national magazine adjudged the project as the best.
