The second edition of the African Music Business Dialogue (AMBD) has been announced, with the conference slated for 16 and 17 June at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, Zambia.
This year’s trade show, which is themed, “The Big Picture: Action Today; Wealthier Tomorrow,” will feature a variety of engaging activities, such as symposiums, panel discussions, workshops, live musical showcases by top talent, an exhibition, and networking opportunities. The conference aims to promote African music and professionals while fostering forward-thinking discussions regarding the direction of African music.
Asserting that “Africans are one people singing the same song and must safeguard each other and share the sounds and culture,” AMBD founder Enoch ‘Trigmatic’ Nana Yaw Oduro-Agyei remarked that the decision to shift the conference to Zambia was a positive step. “A lot of trade has gone on in Africa but one thing that has pushed the good image of the country I believe is African music. So why not a platform to discuss the issues that affect the business of music and share the best practices that we have learnt?” he told Music In Africa.
The founder of Platinum Events and MOZO TV, whose firms are AMBD 2023 partners, Nana Yaw Obiri Yeboah, also told Music In Africa: “It is an honor to co-host the African Music Business Dialogue in Zambia. We welcome industry professionals to Zambia to enjoy the standard of hospitality that the nation stands for. We are pleased to be Zambia’s flagship and most internationally networked music content television.
First held in Accra, Ghana, last year, the inaugural AMBD, assembled industry experts such as Afro Nation Ghana festival boss and The Rave Group CEO Ruddy Kwakye, sound engineer and producer Kofi ‘IamBeatMenace’ Boachie-Ansah, creative entrepreneur George Nii Ofoli Yartey and veteran producer Panji Anoff, among others to discuss copyright monetization, how to elevate the African music movement, revenue generation for all players in the value chain, Ghana’s growing festival culture, and the tourism opportunities.
