Victony drops debut LP “OUTLAW”; named Apple Music ‘Africa Rising Artiste’

Nigerian singer, Victony, has debut his much anticipated full-length project “OUTLAW“. The seven-track body of work is a sequel to his first hip-hop mixtape, 2017’s “The Outlaw King”—and one that he’s used as the foundation of his career ever since.

On this project, Victony, who survived a severe auto accident in May of 2021, embraces a sense of freedom and also showcases his versatility and his ability to translate his headspace into melody underscored with witty lyricism.

“In my position as an artist, many people would want to tell you how to live your life and what to do at different points,” Nigerian rapper, singer and songwriter Victony tells Apple Music. “Everybody has an opinion [regarding] what you should do. And I just want to be myself. But it seems like being yourself, especially in this part of the world, it’s sort of a crime. And I’m like—if being myself is a crime, then I’m an outlaw.”

Meanwhile, he has been announced as the latest Africa Rising artist by Apple Music, joining a growing roster of the programme’s alumni including Ghana’s Amaarae, Kenya’s Nikita Kering and fellow Nigerians Omah Lay, Tems, FAVE and Ayra Starr.

Apple Music’s Africa Rising artist development initiative and companion playlist are geared toward spotlighting the next generation of Africa’s music stars. Under the programme, six artists are selected annually and will each receive a minimum of two months of editorial support across the Apple Music platform.

“Apple Music is opening the world to the beauty of African music and I’m glad to be one of the select few that are championing the new school sound and breaking boundaries in these exciting times,” Victony said.
