Wizkid Makes History with ‘Made In Lagos’

Wizkid’s groundbreaking album Made In Lagos (Deluxe), which is now the first Nigerian album to have every single track sell over 100,000 copies in the US, has established yet another historic record.

The accomplishment highlights Wizkid’s contribution to introducing Afrobeats to a worldwide audience and further cements his reputation as one of Africa’s most significant musicians. Made In Lagos, which was first published in 2020 and will receive a deluxe edition in 2021, has received a lot of praise for its flawless fusion of worldwide pop, R&B, reggae, and Afrobeats.

Years after its debut, the album has remained popular with listeners, from the Grammy-nominated single Essence, which featured Tems and Justin Bieber, to fan favourites like Ginger with Burna Boy and Mood with BNXN. Sales now show how resilient it is, with each tune surpassing the 100,000 mark in the US, a first for Nigerian music.

Beyond Wizkid’s individual accomplishment, the milestone signifies a significant success for Afrobeats, underscoring the genre’s increasing global influence and demonstrating that African music is not simply a fad but here to stay.
