KiDi postpones Golden Boy North American tour, citing health concerns

Ghanaian highlife and afropop singer, KiDi has postponed his highly-anticipated North American tour, citing health concerns.

“It is with a very heavy heavy heart that I announce the postponement of my Golden Boy North American Tour,” KiDi wrote in a statement posted on his social media channels. “I have had to make this decision to postpone the tour due to health issues. A tour of this magnitude and level of committment it will take may put me at risk of further damage to my health.”

The Ghana-based recording and performing artiste was slated to kick off his North American tour at the beginning of next month in Boston, making stops in New York, Toronto, Chicago, Los Angeles, Columbus, Washington, and more before concluding in Seattle halfway through the month. The tour was named “The Golden Boy” after his well-received 2021 sophomore album of the same name, which spawned the cross-over hit “Touch It” and its 2022 remix featuring American rapper Tyga.

The Golden Boy album from KiDi shows off his refined Afropop sensibilities and his propensity for writing singles that are appropriate for any situation, avoiding the rumored sophomore slump that could have come after 2019’s critically acclaimed Sugar.

KiDi, a pianist and capable producer in his own right, co-produced six of the songs on The Golden Boy and shared the production duties on the other eight. The musician accepted tracks written by others for the first time in his career, mostly because they “sounded completely different from everything else on the album.” The end product is a rich and diverse body of songwriting that solidifies KiDi’s leadership in Afropop.

KiDi found initial fame with 2017’s “Odo” and international renown with 2021’s “Touch It,” both of which showcase his knack for crafting melodic songs that blend Ghanaian highlife with R&B and dancehall. Crowned the overall Artiste of the Year at the 2022 VGMAs, he garnered a huge cult following after the commercial success of his singles “Say You Love Me,” “Odo,” “Adiepena,” “Thunder,” “Mr. Badman,” “Sugar Daddy,” and “Enjoyment.”
