Nominees for the 65th GRAMMY Awards will be announced on Tuesday (November 15) ahead of the presentation ceremony in 2023, the Recording has Academy announced.
On Thursday (July 14), the Academy revealed the 2023 GRAMMYs process, including key voting and nomination deadlines. From Oct. 13 to Oct. 23, the first round of voting will take place; a final round is scheduled for Dec. 14 to Jan. 4, 2023. The main event, dubbed “music’s biggest night,” will be held at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena on Feb. 5, 2023, and will be broadcast live on the CBS Television Network and stream live and on-demand on Paramount+.
According to the Recording Academy, the GRAMMYs product eligibility period commenced on Oct. 1, 2021 and will close on Sept. 30 of this year, with an online entry period slated to start on July 18 and close on Aug. 31. Meanwhile, the Grammys entry and voting processes have been updated to include a rule that ups the minimum new content for album eligibility from 50% to 75%.
The 2022 Grammy Awards were held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, due to the fast-spreading omicron variant, marking it the first time the telecast was held anywhere but L.A. or New York since 1973, when it was held in Nashville. The new location drew mixed reviews and complaints of chaotic crowds and transportation difficulties.
Angelique Kidjo claimed her 5th award out of 12 nominations, after her Mother Nature won the Best Global Music Album of the year. Rocky Dawuni’s Voice Of Bunbon, Vol. 1, Daniel Ho & Friends’ East West Players Presents: Daniel Ho & Friends Live In Concert, Femi Kuti And Made Kuti’s Legacy +, and WizKid’s Made In Lagos: Deluxe Edition were the other albums nominated in the category.
On June 9, the Recording Academy announced some exciting, new changes going into effect at the 2023 GRAMMYs, including the introduction of five new GRAMMY Awards categories: Songwriter Of The Year, Non-Classical; Best Alternative Music Performance; Best Americana Performance; Best Score Soundtrack For Video Games And Other Interactive Media; and Best Spoken Word Poetry Album.
