To coincide with this year’s Africa Month, Apple Music has launched a celebration of the the many rich shades, flavours, textures, aspects and sounds of Africa-all the multitudes the continent contains.
The campaign, dubbed “Africa Is…“, celebrates Africa Month by paying homage to the streaming platform’s melting pot of innovation, creativity, and sounds, with music from West Africa, Francophone Africa, East Africa, Lusophone Africa, and Southern Africa, as well as 18 guest playlists.
African artists who contributed to the playlist include Rema (Nigeria), Moliy (Ghana), Basketmouth (Ghana), Kelvyn Boy (Ghana), Prince Gyasi (Ghana), Andrea Iyamah (Nigeria), Chimano (Kenya), Hussein Suleiman (Uganda), Soraia Ramos (Cape Verde), Eliana Murargy (Mozambique), and more.
The campaign includes a flagship editorial and genre playlist, special artist essentials and behind-the-scenes playlists, exclusive home sessions, and the most popular artists’ hottest music videos. Among the songs on the various playlists are ‘Karibu,’ ‘Maboko Pamba,’ ‘Essence,’ ‘Jalier,’ ‘Yamore,’ and ‘Sinzia.’
It also showcases all that Africa has to offer today, challenges outdated misconceptions and narratives around Africa and its people and celebrates African creativity and innovation. “It’s an invitation to discover how Africans define themselves, and how African people fuse their rich cultural influences with contemporary sensibilities to forge new pathways in every arena they touch,” a statement from Apple Music read
