Dr. Javaka Moore, an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist from Maryland, USA and our own Rebecca Acheampong (Becca) visited the Chief Executive Officer of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Daniel Asare and his Management team in the course of the week.
The essence of the visit is for Dr. Moore to explore how he could assist Korle Bu and other hospitals in the country with Cardiotocography (CTG) machines. Cardiotocography is a technical means of recording the fetal heartbeat and the uterine contractions during pregnancy.
Dr. Moore said the availability of the machines will enable the Hospital carry out mandatory monitoring of all pregnant women to ensure the safety of the unborn and its mother.
He indicated that the supply of the CTG machines was a voluntary and personal initiative that he has undertaken to ensure the safety of the unborn child and the mother. And he is absolutely grateful to Becca for her kindness and devotion in making him prioritize Ghana and create the urgency for this trip. He met Becca early this year, as her OBGYN who delivered her baby in USA.
And she will not stop talking about how urgently these Cardiotocography (CTG) machines are needed in all government hospitals in her country (Ghana). The dream is to have one CTG machine to one bed in every hospital.
He disclosed that through this initiative, Ethiopia and Eritrea had already received 200 and 150 CTG machines respectively.
Dr. Moore was hopeful that he will be able to extend the gesture to Korle Bu and other hospitals in Ghana.
The CEO Dr. Daniel Asare expressed excitement at the initiative and hoped that the machine would be delivered timely.
He said he was hopeful that the relationship being established between Korle Bu, Dr. Moore and Becca will endure for a long time for the benefit of their patients.
