It turns out that Black Panther star Michael B Jordan has reportedly been in talks to play Superman in the Worlds of DC. According to Variety, the actor, who starred as villain Erik Killmonger in the MCU film, was invited to a meeting to discuss some of his ideas about the superhero earlier this year.
However, the publication also adds that Raising Dionstar Jordan is currently unable to commit to a stint in the blue and red superhero suit as he’s busy working on other projects.
Jordan isn’t the only big name that DC has reportedly been eyeing either, as Variety also adds that the studio has been in talks with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalkerdirector JJ Abrams about making Superman more relevant to modern audiences, after the director’s production studio Bad Robot recently signed a first-look deal with DC.
But even if there is another movie about the legendary superhero, filming is not expected to start anytime soon and any potential film is unlikely to premiere before 2023 as there’s no developed script or director attached to the movie yet.
Of course, keen fans know that it was Henry Cavill who last played the role of Superman on the big screen, and in a recent interview with Men’s Health, the actor hinted that he’s more than ready to put back on the red cape.
“The cape is in the closet. It’s still mine,” he said. “I’m not just going to sit quietly in the dark as all this stuff is going on. I’ve not given up the role. There’s a lot I have to give for Superman yet. A lot of storytelling to do. A lot of real, true depths to the honesty of the character I want to get into,” he later added.
“I want to reflect the comic books. That’s important to me. There’s a lot of justice to be done for Superman. The status is: You’ll see.” It looks like we’re in for a bit of wait until we see if it’s Cavill or Jordan who puts on the cape next.
Black Panther 2 is due to be released on May 6, 2022.
