A calorie is a unit of energy. Various definitions exist but fall into two broad categories. The first, the small calorie, or gram calorie, is defined as the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of one gram of water by one degree Celsius at a pressure of one atmosphere. The second, the large calorie or kilogram calorie, also known as the food calorie and similar names, is defined in terms of the kilogram rather than the gram. It is equal to 1000 small calories or 1 kilocalorie.
An average woman needs to eat about 2000 calories per day to maintain, and 1500 calories to lose one pound of weight per week. An average man needs 2500 calories to maintain, and 2000 to lose one pound of weight per week.
Calories aren’t bad for you. Your body needs calories for energy. But eating too many calories — and not burning enough of them off through activity — can lead to weight gain. Most foods and drinks contain calories. Some drinks like Bottled Juice, Pina Colada and others while some foods are Ice Cream, Takeaway Pizza, Cookies and Doughnuts, French Fries and Potato Chips etc.
