Shatta Wale is considering the possibility of canceling this year’s highly anticipated Medikal-assisted Freedom Wave concert due to what he percieves as “mounting security concerns,” accordigng to a facebook post made by the singer.
In an open letter sent by a member of the Shatta Movement management, Sammy Flex, on Friday, September 22, Shatta Wale was urged to contemplate canceling the event and explore alternative options for the safety of all involved. The letter emphasized potential political hurdles and traps that could jeopardize the event, even suggesting risks of arrest and loss of freedom.
“It has come to my attention that the upcoming annual Freedom Wave Festival at the Accra Sports Stadium faces significant political hurdles and potential traps that could lead to your arrest and even possible lost of your freedom” the letter stated. “Political tensions have been rising, and the authorities have recently allocated the venue to another musician, a move that seems designed to disrupt your show and cause discomfort to your team and fans. I implore you to seriously contemplate canceling the event and exploring alternative options for the safety of everyone involved.”
Responding to this advisory through a Facebook post captured by www.gbafrica.net, the self-proclaimed African Dancehall King acknowledged the concerns and expressed his faith in the suggestion. Shatta Wale also highlighted his perception of being a target due to his outspoken nature in Ghana, leaving further discussion to his fans.
“In good faith, I take this and I will leave the rest for the fans to discuss and see how I have been a target in this country because of my outspoken and confidently saying things the way they should be said in a country like Ghana,” he wrote.
Early this month, Shatta Wale and Medikal announced this year’s edition of their joint concert, expanding the previously one-night music event into a multi-day celebration. The 5-day festival, which was annonced with a plethora of activities such as, exhibition of SM merchandise, pre-concert with new artistes, prayers for the industry, is scheduled for the Accra Sports Stadium from December 22nd to December 25th, 2023. The festival debuted in 2022 to celebrate their freedom from jail. However, Shatta Wale is yet to announce his final determination and fate of this year’s concert.
