Kati G launches ‘Let’s Talk About It: Suicide Awareness Ghana’ campaign

Ghanaian-American late-night talk show host, Kati G, has launched the much-anticipated ‘Let’s Talk About It: Suicide Awareness Ghana’ in Accra.

The project seeks to help people struggling with mental health and educate the public on suicide and suicide prevention. The presenter, who doubles as the producer of the late-night talk show, Steamy Nights, led the project unveiling on MX24 TV’s morning show, The AM Club: Lifestyle Daily, hosted by Emefa Adeti.

Speaking at the launch, which was witnessed by Clinical Psychologist and Public Health Consultant Hon. Dr. Esinam Assah-Offei, PR Manager for the mass market Stella Amfo, Poet and writer Poetivist, and Ruby Mudey of Mudey’s Catering Service, Kati G disclosed that the idea came to her from friends and family members who confided in her about their suicidal thoughts and attempts.

“I felt it in my heart, deep in my heart, that we need to start talking about it now; we cannot keep looking at it as a taboo. We must face the topic, challenges, and problems and start slowing it down or preventing it at all costs,” she said.

During this campaign, Kati G will host a one-day outreach for persons dealing with despair, suicide, mental illness, and other problems following the launch. The event will be free to the public at e-Ananse Library in East Legon, where there will be counseling, healthcare clinics, games, food, and more on Saturday, March 11, 2023, from 9 am – 6 pm.

Professional counselors, including psychologists, psychiatrists, and other mental health experts, will be there to provide attendees with free counseling. There will also be presentations on suicide prevention to inform the public, and suicide survivors will also take the stage to share their stories.
