The Atlanta City Council has designated October 20, 2021, to be “Lil Nas X Day.” Officials bestowed the accolade on the Grammy-winning rapper Wednesday night at The Gathering Spot, where he was accompanied by fans, friends, and Atlanta locals who praised his contributions to not just music, but also the LGBTQ community.
According to TMZ, mayoral candidate Antonio Brown presented Lil Nas with the proclamation plaque and expressed his appreciation for the entertainer’s influence.
“He has made a considerable impact on the LGBTQ community by reshaping how society accepts LGBTQ artists within the music industry, and empowering others to break barriers and be more open, expressive, and personal through music and art,” Brown said. “And Lil Nas X, I just wanna say you inspire me. I’m running to be the mayor of Atlanta. I would be the first LGBTQ mayor in the history of the city. And you inspire me, allow me to believe I can do it. So thank you.
