Mr Eazi says “Afrobeats is key to developing Africa’s creative economy”

Mr Eazi has revealed that African music has the potentials of boosting the revenue of the African creative economy.

The singer made this statement during a panel discussion on the theme “Africa: Next Frontier for the Creative Economy” at 2023 Milken Global Conference in Los Angeles. The discussion, moderated by Aubrey Hruby, a co-founder of Tofino Capital, addressed and explored the opportunities that Africa’s digital and creative economies have to offer in the art, film, and music sectors.

According to the Nigerian afrobeats musician and music business executive, African music, popular known as Afrobeats and its subgenres, is the next frontier for developing and stimulating the regional creative economy. He noted that the creative economy in Africa has an incredible gateway to export African commodities overseas and shape global culture by playing a vital role in not only preserving heritage but also generating opportunities for cultural exchange.

However, Mr Eazi added that one of the challenges in the African music industry is equity participation in terms of investment and infrastructure, and noted that intellectual property is one way to create an orange economy for the African music industry.
