Music Business Academy for Africa opens application for 2023 seven-module programme

The Music Business Academy (MBA) for Africa is receiving applications ahead of the 2023 edition, which is slated to commence on July 8. Interested participants can apply here.

The seven-module training program initiative, which will commence on July 8 and continue through October 29, will feature a variety of symposiums to discuss topics such as introduction to the music business in Africa, industries of the music business, management and A&R/music development, music production 101, intellectual property and contracts, branding and marketing in the music business, and events and touring in Africa.

This year’s edition of the program has received partnerships in Senegal, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Ghana, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The project has scored notable success, with 294 students from 31 cities worldwide participating last year through weekly live sessions featuring more than 40 industry experts. Over the last few weeks, the top 10 MBA for Africa students from last year’s incubator programme toured top industry organizations such as Google Africa, YouTube Music, and Trace Naija in Lagos to gain insight about their role in influencing the African and international music industries.

“We did our best to give the best education possible, and the students repaid us with the work ethics of champions,” iManage Africa founder Godwin Tom told Music In Africa. “We built a community of competent hands who will lead this industry to greatness with compassion, foresight, and integrity. What started as an idea is now morphing into a platform with the biggest African music industry network from Nigeria to Kenya to Malawi to South Africa to Ghana.”

First developed in 2020 by iManage Africa founder Godwin Tom and in partnership with Music Ally, YouTube Music, and Dr. Carlos Chirinos of New York University, the initiative, designed for industry executives, forms part of a vision to build an informed and empowered workforce for the African music and creative industries.
