MUSIGA To Host AMWeF Benefit Concert.

All is set for a concert in support of the Ageing Musicians Welfare Fund (AMWeF) established by the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) on Saturday, December 29 at the +233 Jazz Pub and Grill in Accra. The fund was established under the leadership of MUSIGA President Bice Osei Kuffour aka Obour to cater for the welfare of ageing and needy musicians in the country.

Artistes lined up for the event include the sensational Kuami Eugene, Kwadwo Akwaboah, Adina and Kevin Buoy among others with veterans including Highlife King, Nana Kwame Ampadu I and the evergreen Naa Amanua of Wulomei fame among others.

Other activities lined up for the night include auctioning of special collections of Ghanaian music and musical paraphernalia of some of our stars. Patrons and supporters of AMWeF over the years will also be celebrated with citations.

According to MUSIGA President Obour, “Our decision to host the AMWeF Benefit Concert instead of our annual Presidential Grand Ball is due to a number of factors hence the programme at +233 Jazz Pub and Grill, we will also use the occasion to celebrate some of the supporters of AMWeF over the years.”

Meanwhile AMWeF members in Greater Accra, Western, Volta, Central and Eastern regions were feted at the MUSIGA office in Accra ahead of the yuletide. The AMWeF members also received benevolent donations from the fund as part of a package for the Christmas.

Some of the members who were at the programme were Lord Bob Pinodo, the Showman of Africa, octogenarian Mike Ofori; the Black Chinese, Obuoba J.A Adofo; ace keyboardist Kwadwo Akwaboah; Rev Sam Cooper from Koforidua and Mama Grace from the Volta region among others.

In an address, the chairman for the occasion and 2nd Vice Chairman for AMWeF, Dr. Eddie Soga of Ramblers International Band fame expressed the appreciation of the beneficiaries for the visionary initiative to support the ageing and incapacitated musicians.

The AMWeF secretary, J.V Owusu said the distribution is in line with the AMWeF plan and also to bring joy to the ageing musicians.

MUSIGA President Obour expressed his appreciation to corporate Ghana for the support they have rendered to the fund to enable the Union support the veterans. He noted that among other things, the fund has supported both needy and incapacitated musicians nationwide.
