Wave Africa, organizers of the just-ended Rave Reunion 24 have addressed controversies and rumors surrounding the unexpected cancellation of the event.
The event happened on the 8th of June 2024 at the TF Forecourt, University of Ghana, Legon Campus. Even though dancehall superstar Shatta Wale was booked to perform, he couldn’t attend.
Clarifying the misunderstanding about the event’s cancellation, Wave Africa revealed in a press statement that they proactively secured and signed a deal with Shatta Wale to have performed after the Jean Nelson Yankah Hall executives contacted them to do so on their behalf two months ago.
” On Friday 7th June we saw an online communique from the Dean of Students’ Affairs office announcing the event’s cancellation. We contacted the hall executives, who were responsible for securing the venue as per the contract. They assured us that the issues with the Dean of Students’ affairs had been resolved.
Based on the assurances from the executives, our team proceeded with the event plans. Additional security measures were arranged with the law enforcement agencies to ensure an incident-free event” Part of the statement read.
Explaining further, the organizers stressed that despite getting assurances from the venue providers, the University’s security interrupted them during their stage set-up and soundcheck, saying “It’s ordered from above”.
“A delegation from our team met with the Dean Of Students and was informed that the event could proceed without Shatta Wale’s performance. We adhered just as we were directed.
We as event organizers are surprised and disappointed by the turn of events and the last-minute ban of Shatta Wale’s performance at the TF Hostel, though the artiste night itself was not cancelled ” The statement further indicated.
In the end, they apologized to fans and patrons for not being able to deliver Shatta Wale’s performance.
