Sarkodie joins Boomplay Golden Club after amassing historic 100M streams

Sarkodie has joined Boomplay‘s Golden Club after hitting a historic 100M streams on the Africa’s most expansive music streaming and download platform.

The two-time BET award-winning Ghanaian rapper becomes the second Ghanaian artist, after Black Sherif to reach the 100M streams milestone, after having had a phenomenal run with his previously released singles and his latest album “JAMZ”. He joins Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Diamond Platinumz, Fireboy DML, Joeboy, Ayra Starr, Fireboy, Asake, Adekunle Gold, Pheelz, Kizz Daniel, Ruger, Mayorkun, Omah Lay and Rayvanny who have clocked and surpassed the 100M streams milestone.

Sarkodie broke through the underground rank over a decade ago, and his battle skills and rap-fire delivery set him on an unstoppable upward trajectory as he rhymed mostly in Twi. He earned a rabid fan base across Africa, the U.K., and the U.S. — a feat many African rappers have attempted but failed to achieve — and even took home Best International Flow at the BET Awards in 2019.

He has become an integral part of a Ghanaian hip-hop scene that’s home to one of Africa’s largest rosters of rappers, with artists such as Kwesi Arthur, Black Sheriff, Yaw Tog, and Medikal constructing cross-continental hits.

The Tema-based rapper remains committed to producing and releasing commercially successful singles since his breakout. His last full-length effort, 2021’s No Pressure, showed off the rapper’s elite lyricism while also pulling in generation- and continent-spanning features from Oxlade, Giggs, Kwesi Arthur, Vic Mensa, and others.

Last week, Sarkodie released his new album — JAMZ, which blends African-inspired hip-hop, tropical Afropop, and vibrant amapiano.

The 10-song LP includes the Tema-based BET Award-winning musician’s recent single “Labadi,” with regular collaborator King Promise, as well as notably featuring contributions from Oxlade, Lojay, Joeboy, BNXN (fka Buju), Cina Soul, Black Sherif, Kranium, and Ink Boy, who layer these tracks with balmy hooks and extremely contagious melodies. With stellar production from Coublon, Guiltybeatz, Masterkraft, MOG and TSB, this new project is basically how Sarkodie feels.
