VGMA only recognizes and promotes musicians based in Accra – Wiyaala

Ghanian Afro-pop singer, Songwriter, Wiyaala says the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards {VGMA} organized by Charterhouse only recognizes and promotes musicians based in Accra only. She said this as she was invited as a guest on The North Podcast with Prince Hamdan Hang.

Wiyaala is a singer who sings in her native language Sissala and Waala dialects and English but she mostly combine three languages within her songs.

Wiyaala who lives in the Upper West region emphasized the lack of deliberate efforts to showcase artiste from other regions whose songs may not be widely known due to language barriers.

She added that she can be as popular as any artist but because she doesn’t stay at Accra and all popular station comes from there they won’t even play her song.

The singer-Songwriter has however in the past won awards at the VGMA including Songwriter of the Year and Best Female Vocal Performance.
